Non-Group Coverage

Non-group coverage ensures all Albertans have access to economical health benefits for a variety of health-related services not covered by the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan. All Alberta residents under age 65, and their dependents, who are registered in the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan can receive non-group coverage. No medical review is required and pre-existing health conditions are covered.

What does coverage entail?

Non-group coverage includes prescription drugs listed under the Alberta Drug Benefit List, including those approved for coverage through the special authorization process. The program also covers diabetic supplies, ambulance services, clinical psychological services, home nursing care, prosthetic and orthotic benefits, mastectomy prosthesis and hospital accommodation.

Travel

Travel is not included in non-group coverage. If a person is planning to travel outside the province or country, it is strongly recommended they purchase travel insurance.

Policy decisions about eligibility and what products or services are covered are made by Alberta Health. Alberta Blue Cross^® administers this program on behalf of Alberta Health.

Enrolment

To enrol, visit Alberta Health to download and complete the application for Alberta Blue Cross^® non-group coverage.

Once completed, the form can be send to an Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan authorized registry agent for processing. The completed document can also be mailed to the Alberta Health Care Insurance Plan office address below.
